Standardising workflows ensures consistency, reduces errors, and improves efficiency by having everyone follow the same best practices. It makes processes easier to scale, train, and audit, while also enhancing collaboration across teams. With standardisation, organisations can measure performance more accurately and continuously improve based on clear benchmarks.

Nodlin has an internal workflow agent, which can be utilised by both internal scripts external agents. These external agent may be part of your existing system and therefore adding workflow capabilities to existing application. This has the benefit of less development effort, whilst providing a single user experience for users across multiple applications.

Standard workflows can therefore be created directly from scripts, and re-used across the organisation.

Standard workflow types

The following are the current workflow types supported by nodlin.

These types all work with the current actions and assignments fundamental to a nodlin node.

Example ‘building a house’

The following shows a typical work-breakdown-structure for the first stage in building a house.

Note that the lighter grey used on nodes indicate an inactive node. These become active once previous steps are completed.

Improving the speed of communication

A significant amount of workflow is conducted over unstructured communication tools (email, chat). This makes it difficult to track progress, and leads to overall lack of clarity.

Many tools exist to support workflow that typically require technology to define. Nodlin provides a user-based workflow to be quickly established, and this flow is dynamic.

When approvals are required - these can be clearly identified and added as steps in the workflow. No need to ‘flag’ emails and monitor for a response. Emails also come with additional verbosity which is not required.

Warning

Given the general utility of the workflow type we have recognised a number of improvements that can be made. This internal agent type requires more extensive development, and to be based on more advanced BPMN principles. We are currently working on this.

In addition we have recognised that being able for a user to be able to create a workflow visually and save as a template if preferable to scripting. This feature is under review.
